Sunday culture
A very low energy week for me due to illness. Lowest point was my face not being recognisable to my smartphone as I resembled something approximating the facial reconstruction of Richard the Third. Comfort culture is the name of the game when illness visits.
What I’ve been watching
Abbott Elementary is a gift of a show cut from the mockumentary genre. It follows the teachers of a public school in Philadelphia and, whilst not always laugh out loud, it is like a warm hug for your brain. Also we love to see a female written and led show.

Also couldn’t resist watching the splashdown of the Artemis 2 mission live. A tense 6 minutes of blackout followed by a textbook landing. The whole mission has been so life affirming, awesome stuff.
What I’ve been listening to
Elizabeth Day has just released a new podcast with historian Dan Jones. As a history nerd and a bit of a Riccardian (that Richard the Third reference was deliberate and it’s all Tudor propaganda), I was delighted to wrap my ears around the first episode. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a book signing once and she is captivating, looking forward to this podcast!
What I’m reading
Very little was read this week but I did download the memoir of Melissa Auf Der Mar, best known for being the bassist in Hole and The Smashing Pumpkins. A 90s rock music nostalgia fest awaits.
Epic solo offerings from Melissa Auf Der Mar
Pals watch on A+E After Dark
Not this week. Stay tuned.
May your week ahead be what it needs to be.
