a hand reaches out to a pint of Guinness.
the first sip. January 2026.

I’m typing this en route to Dublin to catch Rob Anderson’s ‘Are you afraid of the 90s’ live comedy show (check out his hilarious Instagram account @heartthrobanderson in which he dissects old movies and TV shows). Salivating at the thought of the first sip of a creamy pint of Guinness in the capital, to be followed by an evening of silly nostalgic comedy.

Last week I was drained like a post G splitting pint of the black stuff after an incredibly stressful week. It is in those times that I am grateful for being able to immerse myself in whatever art I need to refill my cup, even a little. And yes, it was mostly the hockey drama.

What I’m watching

I saw Hamnet this week in the cinema. Thankful to the editor for cutting in one particular sound Jessie Buckley makes immediately after a silent moment to allow me to let out one of the sobs I was holding in. Beautifully shot with achingly true portrayals within, I was in bits throughout. One you have to be in the headspace for but utterly worth a watch. We also LOVE to see our gal Jessie win a Golden Globe (my favourite performance of hers will forever be Rose in Wild Rose, there’s no yellow brick road running through Glasgow and all that).

On a lighter note, I completed Heated Rivalry. What a show and what a moment! Come for the yearning and steamy sex scenes (deliberate choice of words), stay for the queer joy and the most sublime needle drop I‘ve seen in a while.

What I’m listening to

See above- the Heated Rivalry official playlist has been soundtracking my week. Don’t click or scroll it if you don't know what the needle drop I’m referring to is, not here to spoil a glorious moment of televisual art!

What I’m reading

I’ve delved in to Gillian Anderson’s collection of anonymous essays on female desire called ‘Want’. It’s a fascinating read, when want and sexual desire for a lot of women have often been associated with shame and embarrassment. An empowering read.

To the week ahead.
