After a fallow week, I’ve outdone myself to make up for being quiet.
For it is the 25th anniversary of the release of Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and to celebrate, the extended edition is being shown in selected cinemas. The extended editions are the only versions I acknowledge but they’ve never been shown on the big screen. Until now! I could probably act them out at this stage whilst boring you at a dinner party about my preferred leitmotif from the score but my formerly 16 year old self was utterly enthralled by seeing my favourite film in the cinema. If you’re a fan, try and see it before it leaves.

What else I’ve been watching
Industry season 4 is absolutely killing it. The second episode was one of the best episodes of television I’ve seen, phones down hooked by top notch storytelling. Smug as anything working out one of the character points, I was. Take that, rotted attention span! They’ve pivoted somewhat from their original focus but maintained the character driven examination of that world of high finance and all who float in it.

I had the pleasure (and physical discomfort) of seeing Matthew Bourne’s ‘The Red Shoes’ ballet in Glasgow this week. Edwardian theatres are not comfortable to sit in for those of us with a long femur (and many others) but as soon as the dancing started I was swept up and forgot about any niggles from the awkward seats. Adapted from the Powell and Pressburger film of the same name, the ballet wordlessly tells the story in a gorgeously rendered fashion. Those red shoes arenae gid fur ye, hen.
The film ‘The Red Shoes’ is available on iPlayer at the moment. Hard recommend.

But the absolute so close she could spit on us highlight of the week was seeing Jodie Comer on the Gaiety stage in a revival of ‘Prima Facie’. What a powerhouse of a performance- she leaves the stage only once and barely draws breath over 90 odd minutes of this one woman show. Was an emotional husk after it.
What I’ve been listening to
I had completely forgotten that Self Esteem produced a soundtrack to Prima Facie so have been wrapping my ears around that again.
To the week ahead. January is finally over, Imbolc is here and there is a bit more light creeping in.
