Writing has taken a back seat the last couple of weeks as life has gotten in the way and I’ve prioritised showing up for the necessary.

So I’ve blinked and somehow it is already mid February. Despite the promise that comes with brighter mornings, it feels like it has been raining for a hundred days. Hi, pathetic fallacy, please F off now, I wish to feel energized again and to seasonally retire my black puffa coat.

What I’ve been watching

Our OG Derry Girl Lisa McGee has created another delightful TV show, ’How to Get to Heaven From Belfast’. Not an all out sitcom like its older sister, this is more of a darkly comic murder mystery. I have really been enjoying a female focused and driven story set in Ireland that is absolutely nothing to do with the Troubles. Maith thú, Lisa.

Also please watch Industry, I maintain it is the best thing on television just now.

What I’ve been reading

An old Dolly Alderton recommendation she mentioned on a podcast I recently listened to. The topic of finding love later in life was in discussion and she highlighted how affecting the message in Ariel Levy’s memoir ‘The Rules Do Not Apply’ had been for her. As someone who has had a bit of a seismic year and can feel a bit outside the conventional as a 40 year old single childfree person, I have eaten up this rec and will be devouring this over the next few days.

What I’ve been listening to

I mean, we’re all still mainlining Bad Bunny, right? EY. Drive to work? EY. Cleaning the flat? EY. Bop around the kitchen? EY. Themed voice notes to your cousin? EY.

There is joy, passion, history and deep feeling in these beats and those rhythms. DtMF.

May your week ahead be whatever it needs to be.
